Why 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20kg

Neoprene dumbbells are made up to 10kg. Above that, dumbbells use a rubber coating over the cast iron head and a steel handle, so the 20kg pair in the set is rubber hex. The knurled chrome handle holds better than a smooth one when the weight is heavy, and the hex heads stop it rolling.
